I am not the Worlds best housekeeper. Honestly I try and fail. After picking up the same shoe 12 times a day and putting it back in the closet 12 times a day I just give up. No one else in the house cares where that shoe is. And if I am successful at putting something away, others in this house will spend 15 minutes destroying a room in order to find it. I am outnumbered. So I came across this wonderful blog on Pinterest the other day.
Why did it work so well for me? Well Monday is my laundry day! So already I feel, I can follow this! EASY PEASY!
Monday, do all the laundry (which I usually get done) but it also said to never leave a room empty handed! Constantly pick up. Well the youngest had swim lessons, and then the oldest had gymnastics which provided me with a nice break from the silliness of laundry. I went to bed with one load of whites in the dryer and one load waiting to go in the washer.
Tuesday, clean the bathrooms! Okay, so I struggle to finish Monday's laundry and check the status of my stain removal technique for removing blue mouth wash off white marble that some one had spilled the day before and failed to tell me. Still blue, so I can't clean the bathroom. I know it makes no sense, but when something is wrong it ruins my day. I manage to clean 1 bathroom. It took me more than 15 minutes. Not because it was super dirty. I had a little helper who kept putting his shoes in the "closet" or better known as the bathtub, creating a nice mud puddle where I had just cleaned. Finally at 5PM I "finished" that one bathroom save the mopping it. None the less it was time to leave and take the little one to gymnastics. Upon return I cooked dinner and folded and put away the whites. Leaving one load in the dryer and 2 bathrooms to clean.
Today is Wednesday. Surfaces! I feel confident that I can indeed finish up that last load from Monday, clean the remaining two bathrooms, sweep & mop the floors, dust all the surfaces and have this place sparkling! After of course we return from our field trip and swim lessons, It will be nice because it will leave me with just enough time to complete SURFACES! And Monday's laundry and Tuesdays bathrooms. I will then have to squeeze in school time (Oh did I mention we homeschool). OH and I need to go buy dog food, and pay taxes on the jeep. OH and the oldest has gymnastics so I will have stop and take her. Yep I can do this!
Thursday organize something! I picked my closet. The oldest will do her desk. It will be fun! Because My closet has never been organized since we moved in! I just threw what ever I did not want to deal with when we moved in there! I am pretty confident that Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday's chores will all be done by Thursday so that after we are done with homeschool, I can tackle that beast once and for all! Oh and we have science at 1PM with our fantastic homeschool group, so I am sure I can fit it all in.
Friday tidy the house and vacuum everything including the stairs, thankfully I don't have stairs. As far as I know Friday is home day, meaning I don't have to leave the house. So anything I did not complete from Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, can all be completed on Friday! I will keep you posted on how the rest of the week goes!

Homeschool and socialization
I am often beaten up with this. I don't care. Things like this often happen to me but today took the cake.
At the store today some one asked what school Emma went to (as it was during the day and she was not at school). I replied,"we homeschool." The look of shock and then immediate condemnation followed.
And this was their quote. " Oh My GOSH(will not write what they said) have you ever seen that episode of wife swap where the people homeschool? Their daughter went to college and to a party and she did not know what to do or how to act, she did not know she was supposed to drink!"
I rest my case.
Well almost, I can't leave that alone. If what you are telling me is that if I don't send my kid to school she will not learn how to drink in college your argument sucks. We homeschool remember! We can teach her to drink at home. Not really but come on! Is that the pride of any parent? It is the hope of every parent that their kid will go to college and study and not drink! We don't live in la la land. I realize the temptation will be there and by homeschooling them they will not be protected from such realities. But don't try to tell me I am screwing up my kid because she is not learning how to socially drink alcohol or smoke pot or curse. Your theory was debunked the minute you used a reality tv show (that blows by the way) to tell my kid may never learn how to act like an ass!

Good Morning Girls
Over the next few weeks I will be participating in a bible study with Good Morning Girls
So far the first week has been great. I don't have any fancy words of wisdom as of yet, I plan on elaborating. You might check it out if you grab a chance!

Ah Ha moments
I love Ah Ha moments. I love when I get them, I love when other people get them and I more especially love it when my kids get them.
My eldest child and I were going over her reading and spelling last night. We reviewed the two sounds C can make and when you should spell with the letter K.
If C is followed by i,e or y it makes the /s/ sound, so if you are spelling a word with the /k/ sound and the letter following it is i, e or y you use a K, all other times you spell with C.
Her eyes where huge, she got a huge beaming smile on her face and said,"That is so easy! It makes sense!"
Then she looked at me with confusion and said,"Why don't they teach us that in school?"
My answer to her is, I am not sure. Maybe they do, maybe she missed that day, maybe she was daydreaming, however it seems a pretty important concept to let slide by.
The English language is riddled with silly rules, but once you learn the rules it makes sense. Spelling and reading become easier.
It is a conspiracy.
Through the process of helping her learn to read and spell I myself am learning things I never knew!
Soon after this my Ah Ha moment hit, I can teach my children! Yes I realize I have been doing this since their birth! Go on down the list of crawling, walking, manners and a few other important things, but once they turn 5 you turn them over to the State and the State knows best. People complain about the degradation of our schools and blame it on the lack of parent involvement, but parents have been told for so long, that the State knows best, let us do our job, your kid is in good hands. Creepy way of putting it.
Imagine if each teacher was able to pick the curriculum they found to work the best towards their teaching style, imagine if you as a parent were able to pick the teacher that used the curriculum you thought worked best for your child. If there happened to be a certain teacher that no one picked, well maybe that teacher lost funding.
Schools would be competitive, still work with in a budget and the kids would learn. You would remove the ear of politicians from the great sales people of the best curriculum there is (whole language) and kids could be kids instead of a pawn in the pockets of people who are over paid for knowing what is best for your child.
Seems to simple to work? I can also imagine a teacher is better able at working with in a budget than the over paid people who try to write the budgets in the first place. The simplest solutions are the usually the best answers.

tiny finger pumpkin soup

As I was preparing to clean up the kitchen for the night I noticed the step stool next to the stove. I smiled. I grabbed my camera and took this picture. Why? Hopefully as a reminder of what fun my kids are and were. I know someday soon, they will not want to hang in the kitchen with me, help to me cook. One thing we enjoy doing is cooking. I am more adventurous than others in the family and love to try new things. Emma takes after me in that respect. Graham likes to help! Since he could walk, chairs, stools or what ever he can find are pushed up to the counter so he can lick the bowl or stir. I cherish these moments. I have learned to cherish these moments. Next time I will think to take the picture with them on the stool.
I do have to drop a note of how fabulous this soup is! The chocolate covered fingers that were dipped in it made it very tasty!
